Electric vehicles (EVs) are automobiles that are powered entirely or partially by electric energy. Instead of relying solely on internal combustion engines that burn fossil fuels, electric vehicles use electric motors and batteries to propel the vehicle. The most common types of electric vehicles include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which run entirely on electricity, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), which combine a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric motor that can be charged from an external power source.

Electric vehicles are often associated with lower emissions compared to traditional vehicles, contributing to the reduction of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. They can also offer efficiencies in operational costs due to lower fuel and maintenance expenses, as electric drivetrains generally require less routine maintenance than their gasoline or diesel counterparts. Additionally, EVs can be charged at home or at public charging stations using renewable energy sources, further enhancing their environmental benefits. As technology advances, electric vehicles are becoming more popular and widely adopted, driven by a growing emphasis on sustainability and the reduction of reliance on fossil fuels in the transportation sector.
