Taiwan

Taiwan is an island located in East Asia, situated off the southeastern coast of the mainland of China. It lies in the western Pacific Ocean and is separated from the Chinese mainland by the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan has a distinct political status; it operates as a separate entity with its own government, constitution, and military, functioning as the Republic of China (ROC) since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949. However, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) considers Taiwan a part of its territory under its “One China” policy, leading to complex political relations. The island is noted for its vibrant economy, technological advancements, rich cultural heritage, and diverse landscapes, ranging from mountains to coastal areas. Taiwan is also known for its democratic system of governance, which has evolved significantly since the late 20th century.
